Chapter 1
First Contact
"Just a second!” Emily announced. She was fumbling through her grocery bags, when the doorbell rang. She rummaged real quick for the dressing in the bag she was going to use for her salad. The doorbell rang again.
Emily almost forgot, and walked to the front room. With the house in shambles, a visitor right now is not what she wanted. Emily reached for the door handle, and opened it. Her jaw immediately dropped when she saw the man at the door.
“Hello Emily,” the man said. “May I come in?”
Still in shock, she nodded. The man walks into the room, and looks at Emily, who seams to be still in awe.
“My dear child,” he said to her. “You knew this day would come. It is unfortunately a bit earlier than expected, but the training must begin, if she is to fill that void in her life."
Emily exhaled, and immediately knew what she had to do. “Sir, it is really good to see you. I’ll…” She paused for a mere second and looked back at the man. "I'm sorry. I haven't seen them in years. Is HE alive?"
The man looked at her. “In due time Emily. Soon, you will know everything about what is going on, including that of your family.”
She looked nervous, but agreed that this wasn’t the time for informalities. “I’ll bring her down professor.
The man smiled, and looked at her. “Does she know anything?” he asked. She shook her head no, as she headed upstairs.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Hailey had been sitting in her room all day sulking. Being grounded really sucked. Sitting in her room, with no tv, phone, or computer. It wasn't her fault Peyton Tisdale's hair caught on fire, though when her mom found out, it was straight to her room.
Her mother always over reacted when things happened around Hailey. Her mom acted like Hailey had everything to do with it. Though she didn't do anything, Peyton Tisdale deserved for what happened. Hailey was so upset when she got picked on by her and the other 2 girls that hanged around Peyton. The Fab Three, they were called.
There was a knock on the door. Hailey figured her mom wanted to come up and have one of her talks about self-control, whatever that meant. She didn’t want to hear it today.
“GO AWAY!” she screamed at the door. “I DIDN'T DO ANYTHING!”
Emily wished that was true. It was very hard keeping Hailey from knowing the truth about her. She tried to keep her away from her kind, but it didn’t work, and backfired.
“I know your upset with me,” said Emily with sincerity. "But right now is not the time to discuss this."
"It's never the right time!" yells Hailey. "When have you ever done something for me? All you do when you go to bed is cry yourself to sleep mom."
If Hailey knew half the stuff her mother has done for her, she would take those words back, but Emily knows, she is going to find out real soon. The reactions what she's worried about.
"Hailey," she said to her. "You have a visitor. This is very important to us."
She really hated it when her mom did that. Give her the biggest guilt trip known to man. She looked away from the door, and quickly noticed something go past her window.
"What the...." Hailey said almost swearing.
Hailey hesitated for a second, and slowly moved to the window. She got to the window, when a huge brown owl landed on her windowsill. Haliey jumped back out of pure startle ness. She stepped ever so slowing, as to put her hand out to go and pet it. But as soon as she got close, the owl flew off, and her mother's voice quickly came back into her ears.
She had not realized that she had drowned out her mothers call. She walked over to the door, and opened it. Her mother was standing there with an upset look on her face.
"Why weren't you listening?" she asked. "I was standing here for almost 5 minutes. Hailey wasn't sure what she saw was real, but tried to just shrug it off, looking back at the window.
"What's wrong Hailey?" her mother asked. She didn't really want to tell you mom that an owl was on her window. She would think she was lying, and she'd get into more trouble.
“Uh…nothing” she said.
"We have a guest," she said. "I want you to be on your best behavior young lady."
She sighed walking out the door, and towards the stairs. She headed down, and reached the bottom of the stairs. She looked into the living room area, and she was shocked to see the same owl up in her room, perched on an arm of person sitting on her mother's decor chair. She walks into the room, and the old man stands up.
“Is that your owl sir?” she asked the man with curiosity. The man looked at her and smiled.
"Yes and no, dear," he said to her. "Why is it that you ask?"
Hailey began to tell him what she had encountered upstairs in her room. “Oh Horace!” he said. “I’m sorry, but I’m afraid he does that from time to time.”
“Can I pet him?” she asked.
He looked at her and smiled. “Well of course you can Hailey. He’s yours.”
She looked at him in astonishment. “Mine?” she said. “I don’t own an owl.”
The man looked very happy through this conversation. He tells her to put her arm out in a certain way. As soon as she does this, the bird flies over and flops on her arm with ease and effortlessness.
“How about we sit down so that we can talk.” He said. There is so much we need to discuss.”
Hailey was still confused as she sat down. Horace swiftly left her arm, and perched himself on the fireplace mantle. She is so confused, and looks at her mother in a weird way.
“Hailey…” Emily says pausing. She is having a hard time with doing this. She knew she would have to do it someday. But it is a lot harder than she thought. “For these fourteen years, I have loved you like any mother could love a child.”
Hailey doesn't quite understand what her mom is doing. She knows her mother loves her, even if she gets mad at times. " I know mom." she said to her.
“But all of this, this life that you have been living. All of it has been nothing more than a lie.” She says.
She takes another deep breath. “I am not......" Emily starts crying, and the tears are just flowing down her face. "I am not your real mother Hailey."
Hailey sat there in awe. She turned straight and fell back into the chair with a stunned look on her face. Emily gets up off her chair, and kneels before Hailey, holding her hands.
"I have been protecting you from a fate that should have not been yours.” She paused and continues. “Your real parents were killed by an evil, evil man, and I was instructed to take you away from your home to keep safe from harm."
"Your real name is Hailey......Hailey Potter." she said.
Hailey went to say something, but Emily cut her off before she could get a word in.
“There is more Hun. You and I are not normal people.” she said. "This gentleman is not a normal person." She didn’t want to continue, but knew she had to finish.
“I was ordered to protect you, because you are a witch,” she said.
"Ordered? By whom?" Hailey asked.
The man looked at Hailey.
"Well, by me dear." he said.
Hailey stood up, and looked at the old man. She didn’t know what to say. The house was starting to shake a bit, but Hailey didn't seem to notice. She just had so much anger in her. She was very upset at this man who was in her house. The anger was at a boiling point. And then, the house calmed down, but Hailey's anger didn't. And she let out the biggest scream, that Emily said to have wakened the neighbors from a deep sleep.
“WHO ARE YOU TO TAKE ME AWAY FROM MY FAMILY, AND KEEP ME FROM KNOWING WHO I REALLY AM?” she said.
He looked at her, seeing her anger. He searched for some words, and then began to speak.
“My dear child, when you were born, I promised your parents that if anything would have happened to them," he said to her " that I would make sure that your taken care of."
"And keep me from knowing anything!" she said. This time it wasn't as loud as the last thing that she said, but still firm. "Who are you?"
The man looked at her. "You are right my dear, perhaps I should introduce myself before we get any further,” He said. “My name is Albus…Albus Dumbledore.
